Buraydah, March 4, 2025 – In a significant step toward bolstering water security across the Kingdom, the Governor of the Qassim Region, Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, recently witnessed the signing of the contract for the Jubail-Buraydah Independent Water Transmission Pipeline Project. The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman Alfadley, who highlighted the project's critical role in advancing the Kingdom’s water infrastructure and its alignment with the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The Jubail-Buraydah project is a cornerstone initiative with a total cost of SAR 8.5 billion, marking a major investment in enhancing water security for the Kingdom’s central and eastern regions. Prince Dr. Faisal emphasized the importance of the project, noting that it reflects the continued commitment and support of the Kingdom’s leadership to developing national infrastructure. He underscored the project's strategic significance in improving the efficiency and sustainability of the water sector, ultimately ensuring a reliable and continuous supply of water to all beneficiaries.

In his remarks, Prince Dr. Faisal extended a warm welcome to Minister Alfadley, praising his efforts in overseeing projects that bolster the water sector’s infrastructure. He further expressed his gratitude to all the entities involved in the project, recognizing their collective efforts in ensuring the sustainable development of the Kingdom's water systems. The Governor reaffirmed the importance of the collaboration between public and private sectors in achieving these ambitious goals and providing the highest standards of service to the citizens.

Minister Alfadley, in turn, expressed his sincere appreciation to the Governor for his steadfast support and patronage of regional development projects. He emphasized the pivotal role of the private sector in advancing the water sector, noting that such public-private partnerships are essential for improving service quality, optimizing spending efficiency, and harnessing the expertise of the private sector in the construction, operation, and management of major infrastructure projects.

The Jubail-Buraydah Independent Water Transmission Pipeline Project is a vital infrastructure endeavor that will significantly enhance the Kingdom’s water security. Spanning an impressive 587 kilometers, the pipeline will connect the Eastern and Qassim regions with desalinated drinking water, further strengthening the country’s water network. The project is designed to transport up to 650,000 cubic meters of water per day, ensuring that both regions receive a steady and reliable supply of high-quality drinking water.

A standout feature of the project is its reverse pumping capability, which will allow water to be pumped from Al-Shimasiyah Governorate through Al-Qulayyib to Jubail City. This unique feature ensures the highest levels of continuous water supply, making the system more resilient and efficient. This approach is in line with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture's broader strategy to establish regional water connectivity across the Kingdom, which will enable the more effective management of water resources and improve service delivery to all regions.

As part of the project, a comprehensive system of strategic reservoirs will also be developed to ensure the sustainability of the water supply and improve distribution efficiency. The construction of six strategic reservoirs in Al-Shimasiyah Governorate and three in Jubail City will create a total storage capacity of 1,634,500 cubic meters. This network of reservoirs will play a crucial role in maintaining a stable water supply, especially during periods of high demand, while enhancing the overall efficiency of water distribution across the regions.

This project represents a critical step forward in the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its water infrastructure, ensuring a reliable and sustainable supply of water for all citizens and residents. It is also a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to realizing the goals set out in Saudi Vision 2030, particularly with regard to the development of infrastructure, sustainability, and resource management.

The Jubail-Buraydah Independent Water Transmission Pipeline Project stands as a powerful example of the collaboration between the government and private sectors to tackle one of the Kingdom’s most pressing challenges: water security. By advancing regional water connectivity, enhancing desalination capacity, and creating strategic storage systems, this project will serve as a model for future infrastructure initiatives across the Kingdom.
