Jeddah, March 28, 2025 – The Islamic Arts Biennale 2025 in Jeddah is captivating visitors with a special exhibition of the Kaaba key, offering a rare opportunity to witness one of Islam’s most significant treasures, rich in historical and spiritual value.
The priceless key is showcased in the AlBidayah section of the biennale, a platform dedicated to spirituality and Islamic identity. Themed “And All That Is in Between”, the event is being held at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport.
This key, a symbol of the holiest site in Makkah, was crafted specifically for the Kaaba’s lock and measures 4.2 x 3.2 x 29.9 cm, made from a blend of copper and silver. Beyond its material composition, it represents the sacred trust of guarding the Kaaba, a duty upheld since Prophet Muhammad returned the key to Uthman ibn Talha, ensuring it remained with his Bani Shaiba descendants.
Among its remarkable features, the displayed key at the biennale is the only known one in private hands and is one of only two bearing the name of its maker, adding to its exceptional historical value.
The exhibition of the key at AlBidayah marks a significant highlight of the biennale, allowing visitors to engage with a rare and precious artifact that embodies the authenticity and enduring spirit of Islamic arts, solidifying the event as a hub for creativity and Islamic heritage.
