LONDON, April 2, 2025: The Premier League will introduce semi-automated offside technology starting on April 12, the league confirmed on Tuesday.
The technology, which was first used in the FA Cup, aims to improve "the speed, efficiency, and consistency of offside decision-making," according to the league's statement.
"It allows for more accurate placement of the virtual offside line using optical player tracking and generates virtual graphics, enhancing the in-stadium and broadcast experience for fans," the statement continued.
In addition to its use in the FA Cup, the Premier League also conducted "non-live testing" of the system.
The Premier League collaborated with referees and Genius Sports to develop the technology.
The first match with the new system will be Crystal Palace against Manchester City on April 12.
