The Prophet's Mosque: A Lighthouse of Islamic Learning

Surge in Participation: Over 60,000 students are attending daily Quran memorization circles and Islamic studies at the Prophet’s Mosque, reflecting Saudi Arabia's commitment to Islamic education and its global outreach.

Madinah, December 23, 2024 – The Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah is witnessing a significant rise in the number of participants engaging in Quran memorization circles (Halaqat) and Islamic studies programs (Mutūn), with over 60,000 students taking part in daily educational sessions. This surge in participation reflects the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s deep commitment to nurturing a strong connection between Muslims worldwide and the core teachings of Islam, particularly the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed, peace be upon him.

The statistics for 2024 highlight a remarkable achievement, with more than 1,900 in-person Quran memorization and Islamic studies sessions being held daily at the mosque, alongside an additional 900 virtual lessons. These sessions are conducted by a dedicated team of over 1,300 teachers, who offer their expertise in a range of Islamic disciplines. Importantly, the teachings are available in 16 languages, catering to non-Arabic speakers and ensuring that the Quranic knowledge reaches a diverse global audience. This inclusive approach further demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to make Islamic education accessible to Muslims from all corners of the world.

The educational circles at the Prophet’s Mosque provide a well-rounded platform for learning not only the Quran but also the Hadith and other essential Islamic texts. The use of advanced remote learning technologies enables students from across the globe to engage in these lessons, regardless of their location. This integration of digital tools alongside traditional learning methods ensures that the teachings of Islam can be disseminated widely and efficiently. By fostering this environment of intellectual growth, the Prophet’s Mosque continues to serve as a beacon of Islamic learning, further solidifying Saudi Arabia’s role as a central hub for religious education and cultural exchange in the Muslim world.

This initiative, which reflects the Kingdom’s strategic focus on religious education and community service, is aligned with the broader objectives of Vision 2030. Vision 2030 emphasizes the importance of nurturing cultural and educational infrastructure to promote knowledge, understanding, and cooperation among Muslim communities globally. Through its support for these Quranic and Islamic educational programs, the Kingdom reaffirms its position as a leader in promoting Islamic values and serving the global Muslim population.
