In a notable event reflecting Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to global development, the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), represented by Abdullah Al-Saif, Director General of Loan Operations, participated in the inauguration of the Sir Anerood Jugnauth Hospital, also known as the Flacq Teaching Hospital, in Mauritius. The ceremony, held in the presence of Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, marked a significant milestone in the enhancement of healthcare infrastructure in the island nation.

The SFD played a crucial role in this development by providing a soft development loan of $50 million to finance the construction of the hospital. This substantial contribution aims to bolster Mauritius' healthcare system and improve medical services for its citizens. The hospital, which spans approximately 95,000 square meters, is equipped to accommodate up to 575 medical beds, significantly expanding the country's healthcare capacity.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including Kailesh Kumar Singh, the Minister of Health and Wellness of Mauritius, who recognized the importance of the hospital for the nation’s healthcare system.

The SFD has been actively involved in development efforts in Mauritius since 1982. Over the decades, the Fund has financed a range of projects and development programs across key sectors in the country. To date, the SFD has supported the implementation of seven projects and programs through soft development loans totaling more than $228 million. These projects are designed to promote social and economic growth, align with advancements in development, and support capacity building.

The Sir Anerood Jugnauth Hospital stands as a testament to the successful collaboration between Saudi Arabia and Mauritius, reflecting the SFD’s commitment to providing essential infrastructure services and contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development and capacity enhancement in Mauritius.
