Aqaba, Jordan, December 15, 2024—Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah attended the crucial ministerial meeting of the Arab Syria Contact Group held in Aqaba, Jordan today. The meeting, organized by the Arab League, brought together the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Egypt, as well as representatives from the UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The discussions during the meeting focused on the ongoing crisis in Syria, with an emphasis on exploring a Syrian-led political transition mechanism. The participants acknowledged the immense suffering endured by the Syrian people and discussed strategies to help the country through this difficult period. Their main goal is to find ways to restore the stability, functionality, and normal operation of Syrian state institutions, and to ensure the protection of the legitimate rights of its citizens. The meeting also emphasized the importance of maintaining Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and improving its security situation to create conditions for lasting peace and dignity for the Syrian people.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan attended the meeting alongside Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Jordan, Nayef bin Bandar Al-Sudairi, and the Foreign Minister's Political Affairs Advisor, Musab Al-Farhan. The meeting emphasized the collective responsibility of Arab countries to support Syria at this critical moment, reaffirming their commitment to promoting dialogue and cooperating with international partners to end the conflict and foster sustainable peace and stability in the region.
