The Saudi Press Agency highlighted AlUla Governorate's tourist attractions for World Tourism Day

AlUla, September 27, 2023, The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) recently showcased the captivating tourist destinations in AlUla Governorate, located in the Kingdom's northwest, in celebration of World Tourism Day on September 27th.

AlUla boasts a rich history, featuring archaeological wonders like the Hegra Archaeological Site (al-Hijr), a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Nabataeans. Other attractions include "Jabal Ikma," considered the largest open library in the Arabian Peninsula due to its numerous archaeological inscriptions, Elephant Rock, which resembles a carved elephant, and the "Old Town," once a gathering point for pilgrim caravans, surrounded by lush oases teeming with palm and citrus trees.

The governorate hosts various festivals, with "Winter at Tantora" being a standout event. Notably, "Wadi Ashar" is a renowned valley marked by extraordinary geographical features and rock formations. It houses luxurious desert hotels and the award-winning "Maraya" Concert Hall, recognized as the world's largest building covered in reflective mirrors.

The Royal Commission for AlUla is actively engaged in several development projects aimed at diversifying the economy. The AlUla Vision, initiated by HRH the Crown Prince, aspires to position AlUla as a premier global tourist destination.

This emphasis on tourism aligns with Saudi Arabia's overarching commitment to the sector. For the first time, Riyadh hosted World Tourism Day, emphasizing "Green Tourism and Investment." The event marked the largest celebration in the event's 43-year history, attracting over 500 leaders, experts, and officials from 120 countries. Its goal was to foster cooperation and promote the growth, development, and prosperity of the global tourism industry.
