RIYADH, March 31, 2025 — Passengers in Saudi Arabia are entitled to a free ride if a taxi driver fails to activate the fare meter, as stated by the Transport General Authority (TGA).

The TGA stressed that all taxi drivers must activate the meter at the beginning of each trip to ensure transparent and fair pricing. If a driver does not comply, passengers have the right to complete the journey without paying.

This initiative is aimed at improving service standards and protecting passengers from overcharging. It is part of broader efforts to regulate the transportation sector and enhance the experience for residents, visitors, and pilgrims.

Authorities have urged passengers to report any violations through official channels, with the Pilgrims Awareness Center playing a role in informing visitors, particularly those traveling to the holy cities, about their rights when using taxis.
