The UN Envoy to Sudan Meets with the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs

Eng. Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji, Saudi Arabia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Ramtane Lamamra, the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Sudan, in Nouakchott, Mauritania, during the third consultative meeting on peace initiatives in Sudan.

Nouakchott, December 20, 2024 — In a significant diplomatic meeting, Eng. Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, met today with Ramtane Lamamra, the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sudan, on the sidelines of the third consultative meeting on enhancing coordination of peace initiatives and efforts in Sudan. The high-level discussions took place in Nouakchott, the capital of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, and marked a key moment in the ongoing efforts to support peace and stability in Sudan.


The meeting served as a platform for reviewing the joint efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Nations in addressing the current crisis in Sudan. Both parties emphasized their commitment to working together to find sustainable solutions that will lead to peace and security in Sudan, focusing on the importance of coordinated diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict. The talks were centered around strengthening the international community’s support for peace initiatives and ensuring the effective implementation of peacebuilding measures in Sudan.


Attending the meeting was Dr. Abdelaziz bin Abdullah Raqabi, the Saudi Ambassador to Mauritania, who also participated in the discussions and provided valuable insights into Saudi Arabia’s contributions to peace and humanitarian efforts in Sudan. The meeting underscores the Kingdom’s continued involvement in regional peace efforts and highlights its commitment to working alongside the United Nations to address the complex challenges facing Sudan.


The third consultative meeting in Nouakchott brought together key international stakeholders to discuss peace initiatives and coordination efforts aimed at supporting Sudan’s path toward stability.
