Aden, February 19, 2025 – In a significant effort to combat the ongoing cholera epidemic in Yemen, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) organized a comprehensive training course on Sunday for healthcare professionals in Aden Governorate. The initiative, which was conducted in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Yemen's Ministry of Health, is part of a broader project aimed at preventing and controlling the spread of cholera in the region.

The training, which saw the participation of 170 doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers from various Yemeni governorates, focused on equipping medical personnel with essential skills and knowledge to effectively diagnose and treat cholera cases. The course provided an in-depth exploration of several key aspects related to cholera, including its epidemiological definitions, transmission methods, and risk factors.

Participants were trained to recognize the clinical manifestations of cholera, assess dehydration levels in patients, and provide specialized care, particularly in challenging circumstances such as pregnancy and malnutrition. In particular, the course highlighted the management of cholera in malnourished children, a vulnerable group that requires tailored medical interventions.

The program is a part of KSrelief’s continued efforts to enhance Yemen’s healthcare infrastructure and strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers to respond to cholera outbreaks. This training underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to providing humanitarian assistance and supporting the efforts of local authorities in Yemen to tackle public health challenges.

The initiative also reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader vision of promoting health and wellness in Yemen, as part of the Kingdom’s ongoing support for the country amidst the humanitarian crisis. By empowering healthcare professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge to address cholera, KSrelief and its partners are helping to curb the epidemic’s devastating impact and contribute to the long-term improvement of Yemen's healthcare system.

Through such targeted programs, Saudi Arabia, through KSrelief, continues to play a pivotal role in mitigating the effects of cholera and other preventable diseases, as well as fostering sustainable health improvements in Yemen.
