This article showcases Saudi Arabia’s tourism transformation under Vision 2030, as shared by Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khateeb at the Saudi–US Investment Forum. With record-breaking visitor growth, ambitious goals, and global partnerships, Saudi Arabia is positioning tourism as a powerful pillar of economic diversification and cultural diplomacy.
Tourism Rising Fast in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s golden dunes are no longer its only calling card. Thanks to Vision 2030, its majestic mountains, Red Sea coastline, ancient heritage, and modern cities are now drawing global attention.
At the Saudi–US Investment Forum in Riyadh, Tourism Minister Ahmed Al-Khateeb proudly announced that Saudi Arabia welcomed 115 million tourists in 2024, far surpassing its original Vision 2030 target of 100 million. Of those, 30 million were international visitors, placing the Kingdom among the top 10 most-visited countries in the world.
Tourism is now one of the fastest-growing sectors in the country and is expected to become the second-largest contributor to the Saudi economy by 2030, after oil. In 2016, oil contributed over 85% of GDP. Today, that figure is closer to 55%—with tourism rapidly bridging the gap.
Minister Al-Khateeb emphasized how this change is driven by opening Saudi Arabia’s borders to 65 countries via e-visas and developing world-class destinations such as AlUla, Asir, the Red Sea coast, Riyadh, Makkah, and Madinah.
The sector’s workforce also grew dramatically—from 2% to 7% in less than a decade—thanks to investment in youth education, U.S. vocational training partnerships, and global best practices.
The Ministry’s goal is to welcome 50 million international tourists and have tourism contribute 10% to GDP by 2030. With this momentum and Vision 2030 as its foundation, Saudi Arabia is redefining its global image—from oil powerhouse to cultural, spiritual, and leisure destination.
Vision 2030 is unlocking Saudi Arabia’s natural beauty, culture, and global connectivity to create a diversified economy with tourism at its heart.
Saudi Arabia’s safe, family-friendly, and welcoming atmosphere supports visitors of all backgrounds—from leisure and business travelers to pilgrims.
Tourism fosters understanding. Through heritage sites and modern hospitality, Saudi Arabia is sharing its rich traditions with the world.
Once known mainly for its energy exports, the Kingdom has opened its gates to reveal a deeper identity rooted in history, hospitality, and renewal.
With U.S. best practices, international hotel partnerships, and world-class visitor infrastructure, Saudi Arabia now rivals tourism leaders like France and the U.S.
Saudi Arabia warmly invites you to explore its breathtaking landscapes, ancient treasures, and modern marvels—through a journey shaped by hospitality and purpose.
From spiritual journeys to luxury escapes, Saudi Arabia offers unforgettable experiences. Be part of the story as the Kingdom welcomes the world with open arms and new horizons.
