London, March 4, 2024, A delegation from the Transport General Authority and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development actively participated in the Joint International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Labour Organization's (ILO) Tripartite Working Group (JTWG) meeting, which took place in London from February 27 to 29, 2024. The primary focus of the gathering was to tackle the various challenges encountered by seafarers within the maritime transport sector.
During the meeting, participants diligently identified and addressed critical issues that seafarers commonly face, with a shared goal of enhancing safety, well-being, and mental health conditions for those working at sea. Notably, discussions revolved around the prevention and management of violence and assault within the shipboard work environment. Furthermore, the meeting offered recommendations to rectify potential shortcomings in existing ILO and IMO instruments, aiming to establish more effective measures for controlling, addressing, and reporting misconduct against seafarers.
The overarching objective of the gathering was to foster a conducive and consistent environment that safeguards the rights of seafarers throughout their work.
