TGA has partnered with Abdul Latif Jameel Company to drive innovation in eco-friendly vehicles and advanced transport technologies, supporting research and promoting safe, efficient transportation solutions for the Kingdom's economic and social development.
The Transport General Authority (TGA) has launched a pilot phase for hydrogen-powered vehicles in the private taxi sector, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable transportation in Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh, October 26, 2024 — In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the transportation landscape, the Transport General Authority (TGA) has officially launched a pilot phase for hydrogen-powered vehicles within the private taxi sector. This milestone marks a significant step forward for Saudi Arabia, reflecting TGA’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies that promote sustainable transport practices and enhance the quality of life in both urban and regional communities.

The primary objectives of this initiative include reducing carbon emissions, diminishing reliance on traditional fossil fuel-powered vehicles, and facilitating a transition towards modern, clean-energy transportation options. This pilot program is part of TGA’s broader strategy to leverage advanced technologies in alignment with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to revolutionize the Kingdom's transportation system.

Hydrogen-powered vehicles are particularly notable for their utilization of clean energy and their emission-free operation. These vehicles not only contribute positively to the environment but also offer exceptional performance and efficiency. With a range of approximately 350 kilometers and the capability to operate for up to eight hours a day, hydrogen-powered taxis present a compelling alternative to conventional transportation methods, further underscoring the potential for these vehicles to address both environmental concerns and urban mobility challenges.

In conjunction with this launch, TGA has announced a strategic collaboration with Abdul Latif Jameel Company, a partnership that focuses on the development and promotion of environmentally friendly vehicles and advanced transport technologies. This collaboration is designed to drive innovation, support research and development in modern transportation technologies, and promote the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles. By enhancing transport quality through safe and efficient options, this partnership aims to expand strategic alliances that will support Saudi Arabia's economic and social development.

The launch of hydrogen-powered vehicles within the private taxi sector not only represents a commitment to sustainability but also signals a transformative approach to urban mobility in the Kingdom. As Saudi Arabia continues to pursue ambitious goals in sustainable development, the TGA's efforts in embracing hydrogen technology highlight a forward-thinking approach that aims to meet the evolving needs of its citizens while contributing to global environmental goals. This initiative promises to play a crucial role in shaping a more sustainable and efficient transportation future for the Kingdom.
