Tropical Storm Idalia causes flooding in Georgia, Florida, South, North Carolina

Miami, August 31, 2023, Tropical Storm Idalia left a path of flooding and devastation in southern Georgia and Florida, where it first made landfall as a major hurricane, as it traveled across South and North Carolina on its way out to the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday. In the rural part of northern Florida where Idalia made landfall on Wednesday, rescue and restoration activities are still ongoing. Authorities have so far only reported one death, that of a man in Georgia who was struck by a falling tree. Due to the storm's strong winds tearing down power lines, 500,000 homes and businesses in Florida and other southeastern states were left without energy. Idalia also produced brief tornadoes; one of them flipped a car in Goose Creek, South Carolina, causing only minor injuries.
