WASHINGTON, March 31, 2025: US President Donald Trump is planning to visit Saudi Arabia in mid-May for his first foreign trip of his second term, according to Axios, citing two US officials and a source familiar with the president's travel plans.
Saudi Arabia has been playing a more prominent role in US foreign policy, hosting talks between the US, Russia, and Ukraine as Trump seeks a ceasefire in the war. The country has also been mentioned as a potential participant in the Abraham Accords.
Trump previously mentioned he was likely to make Saudi Arabia his first overseas destination, with a possible trip within the next month and a half, noting that his first foreign trip during his first term was to Riyadh in 2017.
One source indicated that April 28 was considered as a potential date for the visit but was postponed, while other sources confirmed the current plan for mid-May.
The White House did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment, and no official confirmation or announcement has been made by Saudi Arabia regarding the visit's dates.
