Riyadh, April 17, 2024, Turkish fencer Doruk Erolcevik achieved a remarkable feat by securing the gold medal in the under-17 Men's Epee Individual event at the 2024 World Fencing Championship for Juniors and Youth. Erolcevik's victory came after a thrilling match where he defeated Osama Eslam from Egypt. The competition, held at the prestigious King Saud University Sports Arena, showcased the talents of young fencers from around the world.
Adding to the medal tally, Alexander Bezrodnov of the USA claimed the bronze medal alongside Italian fencer Federico Varone in the same category, highlighting the international nature of the championship.
In the under-17 Cadet Women's Epee category, Ukrainian fencer Anna Varone emerged victorious, clinching the gold medal by overcoming Sharika Gajjala of the USA, who secured the silver medal. The bronze medals were earned by Emily Conrad from Ukraine and Huishuang Jiang from China, further reflecting the global competition at the championship.
The distinguished winners were honored and awarded their medals by Ambassador Emrullah İşler from the Republic of Turkey to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Adel Al-Rumaihi, the director of teams at the Saudi Arabian Fencing Federation, adding prestige to their achievements.
Looking ahead, the championship's excitement continues with the Youth Epee event scheduled for the following day.
