Two Holy Mosques Authority Ensures Umrah Performers' Safety at Grand Mosque

Rainwater Management and Maintenance: Specialized teams are working to drain rainwater and dry the mataf (circumambulation area) to ensure smooth movement and safe conditions for pilgrims.
Proactive Safety Plan: The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has deployed over 1,000 employees to manage the onset of the rainy season, ensuring the safety and comfort of Umrah performers at the Grand Mosque.

Makkah, November 25, 2024 – As the rainy season begins, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has implemented a comprehensive and proactive safety plan to ensure the well-being and comfort of the millions of Umrah performers visiting the Grand Mosque in Makkah. This initiative underscores the authority’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety, service, and convenience for pilgrims, especially during adverse weather conditions.

The authority has deployed over 1,000 staff members who are strategically positioned across various locations within the mosque and its surrounding areas to monitor and manage the situation effectively. These employees are equipped with specialized tools and equipment to address any challenges posed by the rainy season and to ensure the smooth flow of pilgrims at all times.

Key components of the plan include the removal of carpets from open prayer areas, a precautionary measure to prevent any slip hazards caused by rainwater. Non-slip plastic walkways have been installed to guide Umrah performers and help them navigate the mosque safely, especially in high-traffic areas. Additionally, specialized teams are on hand to monitor and manage the weather conditions, ensuring that all potential risks are mitigated promptly.

The plan also prioritizes the safety of key infrastructure. Electricity generators have been carefully checked, and necessary steps have been taken to ensure they remain secure and functional during the rainy season. In an effort to further safeguard visitors, the operation of escalators has been temporarily suspended, and power to certain equipment has been isolated to prevent any electrical hazards.

Rainwater drainage has also been a major focus. Specialized teams are continuously working to drain rainwater from key areas, particularly the mataf (the circumambulation area), to ensure it remains dry and safe for pilgrims as they perform their rites. The area is being rehabilitated and maintained to guarantee that the flow of movement remains uninterrupted and that pilgrims can carry out their rituals in comfort and safety.

The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has emphasized its commitment to ensuring a safe and smooth Umrah experience for all visitors. The authority continues to monitor weather conditions and has ensured that all necessary precautions are in place to address any challenges the rainy season may present. Through this detailed and proactive plan, the authority aims to provide the highest level of care and comfort for Umrah performers, ensuring their safety throughout their visit to the Grand Mosque.
