UN CSW selects Saudi Arabia as CSW69 president unanimously

Washington, March 28, 2024, The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) has made a significant decision by unanimously selecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to serve as the president of the commission for CSW69 in 2025. CSW69 represents the largest annual gathering within the United Nations dedicated to discussions on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohamed Al-Wasel will hold the esteemed position as the Kingdom's first permanent representative to the United Nations to chair the CSW, marking a historic milestone since the commission's inception in 1946.

UNCSW operates as a functional commission under the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a pivotal organ within the UN framework. The commission convenes annually to assess progress made in advancing women's empowerment and to develop policies and strategies aimed at enhancing the status of women globally.

Saudi Arabia's appointment to chair the commission reflects its commitment to collaboration within the international community to promote women's rights and empowerment. This decision also aligns with the Kingdom's notable achievements in this domain, which are a testament to the unwavering attention and support given by the Kingdom's leadership towards women's empowerment and rights. Notably, Saudi Vision 2030 outlines priorities and objectives focused on ensuring women's full participation across all levels and harnessing their vast capabilities effectively.

The Kingdom's chairmanship of the CSW is a significant step towards fostering meaningful dialogue, advancing policies, and implementing initiatives that further empower women on a global scale, in alignment with the broader objectives of the United Nations and its commitment to gender equality and women's rights.
