UNRWA reports 1.7 million displaced in southern Gaza, limited aid

Gaza, January 24, 2024, The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported today that the number of individuals displaced in the southern Gaza Strip has surpassed 1.7 million, with approximately one million seeking refuge within UNRWA shelter centers. Unfortunately, less than 8% of their essential needs for food, water, and medical treatment are currently being met.

UNRWA highlighted an ongoing large-scale displacement from the city of Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip to the town of Rafah. This displacement is a result of the sustained Israeli airstrikes targeting the city, which have also impacted shelter centers, including the UNRWA Training and Industry Center. This center houses thousands of displaced individuals affected by the ongoing shelling and Israeli rocket attacks, leading to the tragic loss and injury of numerous displaced people.
