Wehrlein secures critical points, and finishes 7th for TAG Heuer Porsche

27/01/2024- Pascal Wehrlein demonstrated a strong performance for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team during the second night race at the Diriyah E-Prix, securing critical points by finishing seventh on the challenging street circuit northwest of Riyadh. Wehrlein, a Porsche works driver and winner of the season-opening race in Mexico, showcased his skill by making up three places in the 36-lap race.

Teammate António Félix da Costa faced a tough challenge after struggling in qualifying, starting 21st on the grid. Despite the challenging position, da Costa fought his way through the field, finishing 14th at the flag. Jake Dennis, who won yesterday's race for the Porsche customer team Andretti Formula E, faced difficulties in qualifying and started from P14. While initially finishing in tenth place, a post-race penalty dropped him to twelfth. Norman Nato finished in 16th place.

Pascal Wehrlein's strong performance keeps him as the best-placed Porsche driver with 38 points, ranking second in the drivers' standings of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The Porsche team is focused on improving their qualifying performance during the break until the next race in São Paulo.

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E, noted that while Wehrlein's points finish was positive, the team was not satisfied with only one Porsche in the top 10. He emphasized the need to address the poor qualifying performance.

Wehrlein commented on the overall weekend, acknowledging the lack of pace in qualifying and expressing the team's determination to work on improvements during the break. Da Costa shared his disappointment with the challenging situation but affirmed his commitment to overcoming difficulties.
