Riyadh, October 09, 2023, During the Preparatory Committee meeting held on October 9th, 2023, the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have reached a consensus to convene a diplomatic conference in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The primary objective of this conference is to assemble WIPO member states for the adoption of the Design Law Treaty (DLT), which will take its name from the hosting city.
The DLT seeks to establish a contemporary international framework for simplifying the formalities associated with the registration of industrial designs. Its overarching goal is to standardize procedures among participating nations and streamline the process of securing design protection for applicants. The treaty encompasses various aspects, including application specifics, representations of industrial design, filing deadlines, and publication protocols.
