RIYADH, March 28, 2025: Millions of Muslims gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on the 27th night of Ramadan to perform Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers.

A new record was set with over 4.2 million worshipers at the Grand Mosque on Wednesday night, according to Al-Ekhbariya. Worshipers were observing Laylat Al-Qadr, a night deemed to be better than a thousand months, as described in the Qur’an.

Laylat Al-Qadr occurs in the last 10 days of Ramadan, with its precise date unknown but commonly believed to fall on the 27th night. Muslims are also encouraged to seek it during the odd-numbered nights of the last 10 days.

Operational plans on Wednesday included preparing the Mataf (Area of Circumambulation) to accommodate 107,000 pilgrims per hour, ensuring smooth movement within the Grand Mosque.

Authorities also equipped 428 escalators, 28 elevators, and 1,300 modern audio speakers, while providing power sources capable of cooling the Grand Mosque with up to 90,000 tons of capacity. The Makkah region Health Affairs Department has strengthened its services with medical centers to assist pilgrims within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards.
