The Yanbu Refinery has achieved recognition by being included in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Lighthouse Network, becoming the fourth Aramco facility to receive this prestigious acknowledgment. The recognition comes as a result of the refinery's pioneering deployment of cutting-edge Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies, showcasing operational, commercial, and environmental advancements.
Facilities are considered for inclusion in the WEF Global Lighthouse Network based on their successful adoption of 4IR technologies at a significant scale. The Yanbu Refinery joins Aramco's Abqaiq oil processing and crude stabilization facility, Uthmaniyah Gas Plant, and Khurais oil complex in receiving this recognition. With the addition of the Yanbu Refinery, Aramco is the only international energy company represented by more than two facilities in the prestigious network.
Ibrahim Al-Buainain, Aramco Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing, emphasized the significance of this recognition, stating, “This new recognition by WEF reflects Aramco’s sustained focus on the development and deployment of state-of-the-art 4IR technologies, which enhance our operations and contribute to our sustainability objectives." Al-Buainain highlighted the success of Yanbu Refinery in utilizing 4IR technologies to improve profits, increase production, expand processing capacity, and simultaneously reduce energy consumption, waste generation, and gas emissions. This recognition reinforces Aramco's position as a technology leader in the industry and underscores the positive impact of adopting cutting-edge solutions.
