Aden, December 06, 2023, Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik presided over the closing ceremony of the "Using Renewable Energy to Improve Quality of Life Project" in Aden today. The project, a collaboration between the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY), Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND), and Selah Foundation for Development, has successfully impacted 62,000 individuals across five Yemeni governorates: Hadhramaut, Abyan, Lahij, Taiz, and Al-Hudaydah.
During the ceremony, Yemeni Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Mohamad Al-Zaouri commended the generous support of the Saudi Arabian government, facilitated through SDRPY, AGFUND, and Selah Foundation for Development. He highlighted the crucial role of these partnerships in implementing projects that directly improve the lives of citizens and contribute to enhancing their overall standard of living. Dr. Al-Zaouri emphasized the lasting impact of this support in fostering sustainable development within the country.
The "Using Renewable Energy to Improve Quality of Life Project" has significantly enhanced health and education facilities by providing sustainable energy solutions to meet their operational needs. The initiative has supported the functionality of critical medical equipment, created conducive learning environments for students and teachers, and ensured sustainable and accessible energy for targeted families through the installation of home appliance systems.
Beyond immediate benefits, the project aims to uplift the standard of living in Yemen by improving daily lives, promoting economic development through increased agricultural production, bolstering food security, reducing carbon emissions to protect the environment, and establishing a clean, sustainable energy source.
The project encompasses the rehabilitation of 12 drinking water wells using solar energy systems, the provision of 35 renewable-energy-based agricultural irrigation systems, the powering of 20 educational and health facilities, and the delivery of renewable energy to 133 homes across the specified Yemeni governorates.
Integral to the initiative are comprehensive training courses tailored for field engineers, focusing on the implementation of solar energy systems. These courses aim to enhance the skills of field technical teams, fortifying their technical capacities. The training curriculum covers a wide array of technical and administrative aspects, addressing various water-related challenges and ensuring the sustainability of the project's impact.
